Forest clippings #2 – Climate-smart forestry strategy, Kočevski pragozd, Kudzu v Sloveniji, Skrivnostni svet ptic

The 2nd edition of the Forest Clippings is more locally oriented, featuring publications from people I work with in the past and 2 articles written in Slovene.

Strategies for Climate-Smart Forest Management in Austria

In the paper by the first author Robert Jandl from the BFW in Vienna, a colleague/ project partner of mine from the ERASMUS+ CIA2SFM project, strategies for climate smart forest management in Austria are explored and evaluated. From the abstract: “We conclude that the production of long-living wood products is the preferred implementation of climate-smart forestry. The accumulation of carbon in the standing biomass is risky in the case of disturbances. The production of bioenergy is suitable as a byproduct of high value forest products.”

Influential Actors’ Perceptions of Facilitators and Instruments for Solving Future Forest Land-Use Disputes in Europe

This paper’s authors include Nike Krajnc and Špela Ščap from the Slovenian Forestry Institute. The findings are quite interesting – from the abstract: “Our results show that the market and its instruments are considered to play a dominant role in wood mobilisation. With respect to all other issues (socio-ecological, societal, other), the state or other institutions and their instruments gain priority. The state is considered to play a stronger role in developing new markets, e.g., for energy transition or new uses of wood, contrary to liberal market expectations. Ecological and social problems are considered to be outside of the market domain. Here, the state is called in, e.g., to steer recreational issues, the provision of ecosystem services, or the improvement of the protective function. The clearest preference across all regions is for the state to secure the provision of ecosystem services, in contrast to calls for future markets to regulate this field. ”

Prva najdba invazivne tujerodne rastline kudzu pri nas

“V Strunjanu so konec avgusta našli novo tujerodno rastlino kudzu.

V okviru projekta LIFE Stržen izvajajo ustvarjalni natečaj za osnovnošolke in osnovnošolce. Rok za oddajo del je sreda 28. 11. 2018.
